Merry Christmas to Jaybirds!
We were contacted by Francisco of Amplify817 for an amazing opportunity with CBS 11 Texas News. “Would you like to be considered for a unique opportunity with CBS 11?” Uhhh… yes, yes we would! How exciting! The bummer is that because they were recording on a weekday (we all have full-time jobs), not all of us could attend, so we pivoted to offering an acoustic performance.
Despite that, CBS 11 ended up picking us to be a part of the project and provided us a list of very old Christmas songs (from the 1800's!). The show was said to be pre-recorded for air-time and we needed to choose/prepare 3 songs from the list OR something original as long as it was a winter/Christmas theme.
This was a Christmas jackpot for us! J.P. and Jenna have sung Christmas music together since 2013 and were more than ready to perform O Holy Night, Silent Night, O Come O Come Emmanuel and Go Tell it on the Mountain. And yes, that IS more than 3 songs; we actually picked the last one first, but someone else had already chosen it. However, due to a communication mixup, we were allowed to still prepare and perform it as they didn't want to pass up the original bridge that J.P. wrote for Go Tell it on the Mountain.
So on Friday, December 12th, we woke up bright and early, got our holiday colors on and hair done (luckiluy had fresh cuts the day before by Lauren Barton of “Hair by Lauren” - THANK YOU!) and made our way down to the station! There, we were met by Peter Hull and other members of the CBS and Paramount teams to record our performances and had a wonderful time! Everyone was incredibly nice to work with and made us feel very welcome. This meant the world to us because we've never been on TV like this and were SO NERVOUS. And we can't forget to mention many thanks to our friend, Joseph Neville, for giving us a heads up on what to expect as he also got to be a part of the project! Thanks Joe! We performed all four songs and immediately left to go have a late breakfast at Blue Mound Cafe in Fort Worth. Yum!
